Starting four decades ago, studies have examined the ecology and evolutionary dynamics of populations species using short mitochondrial DNA fragments stable isotopes. Through technological analytical advances, methods biomolecules at our disposal increased significantly to now include lipids, whole genomes, proteomes, even epigenomes. At an unprecedented resolution, study ancient has made it possible for us disentangle complex processes that shaped faunal diversity across millennia, with potential aid in implicating probable causes extinction how humans impacted genetics wild domestic species. However, now, few explore interdisciplinary biomolecular approaches reveal relation environmental anthropogenic impact. This review will approach been implemented a broad variety topics species, from extinct Pleistocene megafauna stocks, as well their future use offer enhanced understanding drivers past on Earth.
